Taiwan Trade Surplus Grows In September

(RTTNews) - Taiwan's foreign trade surplus increased notably in September from a year ago as exports grew much faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Ministry of Finance revealed on Thursday.

The trade surplus rose to $12.4 billion in September from $7.1 billion in the corresponding month last year. Meanwhile, the surplus shrank from $16.8 billion in August.

Exports surged 33.8 percent year-over-year in September, and imports climbed by 25.1 percent.

Shipments of information, communication, and audio-video products jumped by 86.9 percent, and outflows of parts of electronic products rose by 25.6 percent. Exports of machinery were 5.0 percent higher compared to last year.

Meanwhile, imports of mineral products showed an annual decline of 11.3 percent.
