Malaysian Trade Surplus Shrinks In October

11/20/2023 - 01:08:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The Malaysian trade surplus decreased in October as exports fell faster than imports, data from the statistical office showed on Monday.

The trade surplus shrank to MYR 12.9 billion in October from MYR 18.5 billion in the same month last year.

In September, the trade surplus was MYR 24.37 billion.

Exports fell 4.4 percent yearly in October, though slower than the 13.8 percent decline a month ago.

The downward trend in shipments was led by the decline in both domestic exports and re-exports.

Imports dropped only 0.2 percent annually in August, following a 11.1 percent plunge in the previous month.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, both exports and imports grew by 1.5 percent and 13.4 percent, respectively, from a month earlier.
