Malaysia Inflation Eases To 51-Month Low

06/24/2025 - 02:25:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation softened in May to the lowest level in more than four years, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Tuesday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.2 percent annually in May, slower than the 1.4 percent stable increase in April.

Further, this was the weakest inflation rate since February 2021. Meanwhile, economists had expected inflation to remain stable at 1.4 percent.

The annual price growth in food and beverages eased to 2.1 percent from 2.3 percent. Similarly, inflation based on housing and utilities softened to 1.7 percent from 2.0 percent. Data showed that clothing and footwear prices were 0.2 percent less expensive.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent in May.
