06/09/2025 - 05:04:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Taiwan's foreign trade surplus increased notably in May from a year ago as exports grew much faster than imports, preliminary figures from the Ministry of Finance revealed on Monday.

The trade surplus rose to $12.6 billion in May from $6.0 billion in the corresponding month last year. The surplus also increased from $7.21 billion in April.

Exports grew 38.6 percent year-over-year in May, faster than the 29.9 percent expansion in the prior month. Shipments of information, communication, and audio-video products jumped by 111.1 percent, and outflows of parts of electronic products rose by 28.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the annual growth in imports moderated to 25.0 percent from 33.0 percent.
