(RTTNews) - South Korea posted a merchandise trade surplus of $9.74 billion in November, the Customs Office said on Monday in a preliminary report.

That exceeded expectations for a surplus of $8.40 billion and was up from the $6.00 billion surplus in October.

Exports climbed 8.4 percent on year, beating forecasts for an increase of 5.7 percent and up from 3.5 percent in the previous month.

Imports were up 1.2 percent, shy of expectations for a gain of 3.4 percent after slipping 1.5 percent a month earlier.
