South Korea Consumer Sentiment Improves In April

(RTTNews) - South Korea's consumer confidence improved moderately in April, survey results published by Bank of Korea showed on Wednesday.

The consumer sentiment index rose to 93.8 in April from 93.4 in March. The score below 100 suggests that pessimists outnumber optimists.

Sentiment regarding current living standards and prospective living standards remained unchanged in April, with readings at 87 and 92, respectively.

Consumer sentiment related to future household income was stable at 96, and that concerning future household spending gained one point to 105.

Consumer sentiment concerning current domestic economic conditions moved up to 52 from 55. Likewise, the index for prospective domestic economic conditions rose to 73 from 70.

The expected inflation rate for the upcoming year was 2.8 percent compared to 2.7 percent in the previous month. The three-year and five-year ahead expected inflation rate was 2.6 percent.

The survey was conducted among 2,500 households between April 8 and 15.
