South Korea Consumer Confidence Improves In January

(RTTNews) - South Korea's consumer sentiment increased for the first time in three months in January, survey results from the Bank of Korea showed on Wednesday.

The consumer confidence index rose to 91.2 in January from 88.2 in December.

The consumer confidence survey was conducted between January 7 and 14 among 2,500 households.

The sub-index for households' assessment of current living standards remained stable at 87. Meanwhile, their prospective living standards improved, with the respective index rising to 89 from 86.

Similarly, the index measuring consumers' prospective household income increased from 94 to 96.

Consumers' interest rate expectations decreased somewhat in January, with the measure falling to 97 from 98.

The expected inflation rate for the upcoming year was 2.8 percent, down from 2.9 percent.
