(RTTNews) - South Africa's retail sales growth moderated for the first time in three months in June, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.

On an unadjusted basis, retail sales rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in June, slower than the 4.3 percent increase in the prior month.

The annual sales growth in textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods eased to 4.6 percent from 12.6 percent. Sales of hardware, paint, and glass grew 5.4 percent, while sales of food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized stores declined by 4.5 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales remained flat versus a 0.2 percent rise in May.
