South Africa Manufacturing Output Falls Further

(RTTNews) - South Africa's manufacturing output declined sharply in December, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Tuesday.

Manufacturing output declined 5.9 percent year-on-year in December, following a 3.2 percent decrease in November.

The biggest negative contributions came from motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment, petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products, wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing, basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery and food and beverages.

On a month-on-month basis, manufacturing output fell 2.8 percent in December, following a 1.8 percent decrease in the previous month.

For the three-month period ended in November, manufacturing production fell 0.3 percent, reversing a 0.2 percent increase in the previous three months.

For the whole year of 2019, manufacturing output fell 0.9 percent from the last year.
