New Zealand Retail Sales Sink 0.5% In Q2

(RTTNews) - The volume of retail sales in New Zealand was down a seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent on quarter in the second quarter of 2026, Statistics New Zealand reported on Monday - coming in at NZ$26 billion.

That missed forecasts for an increase of 0.1 percent and was down from 0.9 percent in the previous three months.

Core retail sales climbed 0.7 percent on quarter, beating forecasts for 0.3 percent after rising 1.1 percent in the three months prior.

By industry, the largest movements were: electrical and electronic goods retailing - up 9.2 percent; fuel retailing - down 13 percent; motor vehicle and parts retailing - down 2.3 percent; accommodation - down 8.0 percent; and food and beverage services - down 2.8 percent.
