Malaysia Trade Surplus Grows In February

(RTTNews) - The Malaysian trade surplus increased in February from a year ago as exports grew faster than imports, data from the statistical office showed on Thursday.

The trade surplus rose to MYR 12.6 billion in February from MYR 11.2 billion in the same month last year. In January, the trade surplus was MYR 3.7 billion.

Exports climbed 6.2 percent annually in February, following only a 0.3 percent rise in the prior month. The upward trend was driven by increases in both domestic exports and re-exports.

Meanwhile, the annual growth in imports eased to 5.5 percent from 6.2 percent in January.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, exports logged a monthly growth of 2.3 percent, while imports dropped by 2.4 percent.
