Malaysia Inflation Rises To 7-month High

(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation increased further in September to the highest level in seven months, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.5 percent annually in September, following a 1.3 percent rise in August. The expected inflation rate was 1.4 percent.

Further, a similar inflation rate was last seen in February.

Inflation based on food and non-alcoholic averages rose to 2.1 percent from 2.0 percent. Meanwhile, the annual price growth in housing and utilities also accelerated to 1.5 percent from 1.2 percent, and transportation costs grew 0.7 percent versus 0.2 percent in August.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices moved up 0.2 percent in September, after a 0.1 percent stable increase in August.
