(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation increased further in August to the highest level in four months, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Monday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.3 percent annually in August, as expected, following a 1.2 percent rise in July.

Inflation based on food and non-alcoholic averages rose to 2.0 percent from 1.9 percent. Meanwhile, the annual price growth in housing and utilities slowed to 1.2 percent from 1.3 percent, and the decline in clothing and footwear softened to 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent in August, the same as in the previous four months.
