(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation increased slightly in July after easing in the previous two months, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Friday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.2 percent annually in July, as expected, following a 1.1 percent rise in June.

Inflation based on housing and utilities softened to 1.3 percent from 1.7 percent. The annual price growth in food and beverages also slowed to 1.9 percent from 2.1 percent, while clothing and footwear prices were 0.2 percent less expensive.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent in July, the same as in the previous three months.
