India Industrial Output Growth Eases To 1.2%

(RTTNews) - India's industrial production growth moderated further in May to the lowest level in nine months, data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed Monday.

Industrial production rose 1.2 percent year-over-year in May, after a downwardly revised 2.6 percent growth in April. The expected increase was 2.4 percent.

The overall growth in May was mainly driven by a 2.6 percent expansion in the manufacturing sector. Meanwhile, the growth was mainly curbed by a 5.8 percent decline in electricity production. Mining production was also 0.1 percent lower compared to last year.

During the April-May period, total industrial production advanced 1.8 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.
