India Industrial Output Growth Eases To 3.2%

(RTTNews) - India's industrial production growth softened more-than-expected in December after accelerating in the previous month, data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed Wednesday.

Industrial production rose 3.2 percent year-over-year in December, slower than the revised 5.0 percent gain in November. The expected increase was 3.9 percent.

The slowdown in overall growth in December was mainly due to the developments in the manufacturing segment, where the expansion moderated to 3.0 percent from 5.5 percent.

Meanwhile, the growth in mining quickened to 2.6 percent from 1.9 percent. Electricity production rose 6.2 percent from last year versus 4.4 percent in November.

From April to December, industrial production posted an annual growth of 4.0 percent compared to a 6.3 percent rise in the same period last year.
