Eurozone Unemployment Rate Rises

(RTTNews) - The euro area unemployment rate rose slightly in February, data from Eurostat showed on Wednesday.

The unemployment rate rose to 6.2 percent from 6.1 percent in January. In the same period last year, the jobless rate was 6.3 percent.

Economists had forecast the rate to remain at 6.1 percent in February.

Data showed that about 10.919 million people were unemployed in February. Unemployment increased by 93,000 from January. Compared to last year, unemployment fell by 124,000. The unemployment rate among young people aged below 25 remained unchanged at 14.9 percent in February.

In the EU, the unemployment rate was stable at 5.9 percent in February. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate rose slightly to 15.3 percent from 15.2 percent a month ago.
