Brazil Retail Sales Fall 0.3% In July

(RTTNews) - Brazil's retail sales decreased for the fourth straight month in July as expected, figures from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, showed on Thursday.

Retail sales dropped 0.3 percent month-on-month in July, following a 0.1 percent fall in June.

Sales of office, computer, and communication equipment and supplies showed a decline of 3.1 percent over the month, and those of fabrics, clothing, and footwear dropped 2.9 percent.

On a yearly basis, retail sales growth accelerated to 1.0 percent from 0.4 percent. The expected growth was 0.8 percent.

In expanded retail, which includes vehicles, motorcycles, parts and accessories, construction materials, and wholesale of food, beverages, and tobacco products, sales volume grew 1.3 percent compared to June.
