Brazil Inflation Rises Slightly In June

(RTTNews) - Brazil's consumer price inflation rose marginally in June after easing in the previous month, figures from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index climbed 5.35 percent year-over-year in June, following a 5.32 percent rise in May.

Moreover, the inflation rate continued to remain above the central bank's upper tolerance band of 4.5 percent.

Inflation based on transportation rose to 5.11 percent from 4.64 percent. Clothing prices were 4.68 percent more expensive, and food prices grew 6.6 percent versus 7.33 percent in May.

Monthly inflation moderated to 0.24 percent in June from 0.26 percent in May. The overall monthly decrease was driven by a 0.18 percent fall in costs for food and beverages.
