Malaysia Trade Surplus Grows In April

06/05/2018 - 00:28:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Malaysia's foreign trade surplus increased notably in April from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Tuesday.

The trade surplus rose to MYR 13.1 billion in April from MYR 8.7 billion in the corresponding month last year. The expected surplus for the month was MYR 12.7 billion.

Exports registered a double-digit growth of 14.0 percent annually in April, much faster than economists' forecast for an increase of 6.3 percent.

Shipments of electrical and electronic products advanced 21.2 percent over the year and those of refined petroleum products surged by 38.9 percent.

Imports climbed 9.1 percent year-over-year in April, well above the expected rise of 3.8 percent.
