JBS: Group Denies Attorney General Allegations On Plea-bargain Deal

09/05/2017 - 19:36:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Brazil's J&F, the parent company of JBS, denied that group executives Joesley Batista and Wesley Batista acted maliciously and omitted that a former prosecutor helped the company to reach a plea-bargain deal.

Monday night, Brazil's Attorney General Rodrigo Janot said that he would launch an investigation into the JBS's plea-bargain amid recent evidence pointing that a former public prosecutor guided the owners of the company through the negotiations while working for the attorney-general office.

"As the PGR itself stated in an official note, the dialogue in question is composed of mere lucubrations, without any factual support. That is to say, onlyhypotheses. There was not a single word to compromise authorities," said the J&F statement.

The business group also says that "it is true that during the decision process that led to the collaboration agreement, several professionals were consulted - but at no time was there any contamination that could compromise the collaborators' good faith act."

At a press conference held Monday, Janot said that if any unlawfulness is proven, "the plea-bargain deal agreement will be terminated," but that would not invalidate the evidence offered so far.
