Italy's Manufacturing Activity Stagnates In September

10/01/2018 - 05:21:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Italy's manufacturing sector signaled no change in operating conditions in September, survey data from IHS Markit showed Monday.

The headline Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, dropped to 50.0 in September from 50.1 in August. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a score below 50 suggests contraction in the sector.

Moreover, September's data also marked the first time in just over two years that the sector has failed to expand.

Among components, both output and new orders fell slightly in September, while exports orders rose further, though marginal overall.

Manufacturers continued to add their staffing numbers in September, but the rate of job creation was marginal and the lowest since the start of 2015 amid further signs of excess capacity in the sector.

On the price front, input price inflation eased to a 13-month low, while companies raised their own charges at a stronger pace when compared to August.
