IMF: Argentina Among The Fastest Growing Nations In The Region

08/24/2017 - 15:34:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The director for the Western Hemisphere of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Alejandro Werner, affirmed that Argentina would close 2017 posting one of the highest growth rates in the region, once it could leave behind a 2% drop last year to rise above 2% in the current.

Speaking at the Council of the Americas, Werner considered that the IMF sees a "very important transformation that is taking place today in Argentina and a process of macroeconomic order that goes through the establishment of an independent monetary policy and an exchange rate flotation scheme that has been very successful in the region."

Meanwhile, Werner noted that the IMF sees that Argentina is in "a process of recovering and consolidation of growth, with balance and quickness in reforms."

Noting that the global economy "is accelerating, with a 3.5% average growth rate for this year and a slight growth for the next," Werner said that Argentina would grow 2.4% in 2017, while the United States' economy would increase 2%, the European would grow 1.5% and the Chinese at around 6%.
