Finland Consumer Confidence Weakens In April

(RTTNews) - Finland's consumer confidence declined in April after strengthening in the previous month, figures from Statistics Finland showed Thursday.

The consumer sentiment index fell to 21.5 in April from 22.9 in March, which was the highest reading since September 2010.

Households' expectations regarding their own financial situation for the next year worsened in April. The corresponding index dropped to 10.0 from 12.4 in the prior month.

At the same time, the index measuring general economic situation of the country for the next twelve months rose to 21.1 in April from 17.9 in the prior month.

The survey revealed that altogether 45 percent of consumers thought in April that unemployment would decrease over the year, while 19 percent of them believed it would increase.

Consumers predicted in April that consumer prices would go up by 1.6 percent over the next 12 months.

The survey was conducted among 1,199 households between April 3 and 18.

Another survey report released by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK showed that business confidence of Finnish manufacturing companies was unchanged in April.

The business confidence indicator held steady at 5.0 in April and remained above its long-term average of 1.0.
