Finland Consumer Confidence Falls Further

09/27/2018 - 04:16:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Finland's consumer confidence dropped for the fourth straight month in September, though remained strong, figures from Statistics Finland showed Thursday.

The consumer confidence index dropped to a 21-month low of 20.2 in September from 21.5 in August. However, that was well above the long-term average of 12.6.

Households' expectations about the general economic situation of the country over the next twelve months weakened in September. The corresponding index fell to 8.0 from 10.4 in the previous month.

The index measuring their own financial situation over the next year broadly decreased marginally to 10.1 from 10.2.

Forty-five percent of consumers expected in September that unemployment would decrease over the year, while only 16 percent of them believed it would increase.

Consumers estimated in September that consumer prices would go up by 2.0 percent over the next 12 months.

Another survey report released by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK showed that business confidence of Finnish manufacturing companies stayed nearly unchanged at a relatively high level in September, despite the index falling slightly to 11 from 12 in August.

The sub-index measuring confidence in the construction sector weakened in September, while the morale improved in both retail and service sectors.
