Eurozone Inflation Rises In September

09/28/2018 - 05:27:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Eurozone inflation accelerated in September on food and energy prices, flash data from Eurostat showed Friday.

Inflation rose marginally to 2.1 percent, in line with expectations, from 2 percent a month ago.

The European Central Bank targets "below, but close to 2 percent" inflation.

Core inflation that excludes food, alcohol and tobacco, slowed unexpectedly to 0.9 percent from 1 percent in August. The core rate was expected to edge up to 1.1 percent.

Food, alcohol and tobacco prices advanced 2.7 percent in September, following a 2.4 percent rise in August. Likewise, the increase in energy cost increased to 9.5 percent from 9.2 percent.

Non-energy industrial goods prices logged a steady growth of 0.4 percent. Similarly, services cost gained 1.3 percent, the same rate as seen in August.
