Europe's Passenger Car Registrations Increase: ACEA

09/19/2018 - 02:18:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Europe's passenger car registrations increased at faster rates in July and August, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association reported Wednesday.

Passenger car sales increased 10.5 percent year-on-year in July after expanding 5.2 percent in June.

August usually is the lowest sales month of the year, but the EU passenger car market grew significantly by 31.2 percent this August, counting more than 1.1 million new vehicles.

The association cited the introduction of the new WLTP test that applies to all new car registrations from September 1, 2018 as a reason for this exceptional growth. Some auto manufacturers offered pre-WLTP vehicles at extremely attractive prices driving sales volume higher.

During January to August, passenger car registrations across the EU grew 6.1 percent to reach 10.8 million units, largely boosted by the unusually strong performance during the summer months.

In July, sales growth was recorded in all major EU markets. Spain posted 19.3 percent expansion and France logged 18.9 percent increase.

Germany's registrations surged 12.3 percent, followed by a 4.7 percent rise in Italy and 1.2 percent increase in the United Kingdom.
