08/31/2017 - 01:58:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Estonia's economic growth quickened further in the three months ended June, figures from Statistics Estonia showed Thursday.

Gross domestic product expanded 5.7 percent year-over-year in the second quarter, faster than the 4.6 percent rise in the previous quarter.

During the fourth quarter of 2016, the rate of growth was 3.1 percent.

The seasonally and working-day-adjusted GDP advanced by 5.2 percent compared with the corresponding period last year.

In the second quarter, GDP growth was mainly driven by construction. Other main contributors were professional, scientific and technical activities, transportation and storage, information and communications and energy.

Domestic demand grew by 3.1 percent as all of its components strengthened, boosted by gross fixed capital formation, which surged by 18.2 percent in real terms.

On quarterly basis, the seasonally and working-day-adjusted GDP rose 1.3 percent in the June quarter.

In an another report, the statistical office revealed that annual retail sales growth eased to 1.0 percent in July from 4.0 percent in June. Sales have been rising since July 2013.

Compared to the previous month, the turnover of retail trade enterprises remained flat in July.
