Dutch Consumer Confidence Strongest Since Feb 2001; Spending Growth Eases

04/20/2017 - 00:56:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Dutch consumer confidence strengthened further in April to the highest level in more than sixteen years, while spending rose at the weakest pace in eight months in February, figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index rose to 26.0 in April from 24.0 in March. Moreover, this was the highest reading since February 2001.

Consumers were more positive about the economy than in March. The corresponding index climbed to 50.0 in April from 47.0 in the prior month.

The index measuring willingness to buy improved to 10.0 in April from 8.0 in the preceding month.

Separately, the statistical office revealed that consumer spending grew 0.8 percent annually in February, slower than the 2.6 percent rise in January. The measure has been rising since October 2014.
