COLOMBIA: OAS Mission Begins Observation Of Presidential Elections

06/13/2018 - 21:43:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The Electoral Oversight Mission of the Organization of American States for the presidential elections in Colombia began its work in the country to observe the second round of the elections to be held on June 17.

Led by the former Vice President of Costa Rica and former Secretary of Political Affairs of the OAS, Kevin Casas Zamora, the mission is composed of 32 international experts and observers of 12 nationalities, who will be present in different departments of the country and the Capital District.

The mission, which observed the legislative elections and the first presidential round, will emphasize the issues of electoral organization and technology and will resume the analysis made in May of other key aspects of the process, such as campaign funding and electoral justice.

After the election, it will present a consolidated report that will include findings and recommendations of the electoral process as a whole. This will be the eighteenth election that the OAS observes in Colombia.
