COLOMBIA: Gov't Restarts Agreement To Enable Power Connection With Panama

09/14/2017 - 21:26:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Colombia's Minister of Mines and Energy, Germán Arce, and Panama's Minister of the Presidency, Salvador Sánchez, reactivated an agreement to enable energy integration between both countries.

Colombia and Panama reviewed the feasibility of a 500-quilometer electric transmission line project from the Cerromatoso, in Cordoba, to the Panama II substations, in the Panama Province, with a capacity to transport 400 megawatts (MW).

"The electrical interconnection between our countries will allow access to more economical generation sources that benefit users, help to diversify the energy matrix and increase system reliability. Additionally, it provides a source of emergency support with other sources of energy and promotes the reduction in emissions due to the replacement of fossil fuels," Arce said.
