09/21/2017 - 23:27:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The economic committee of the Colombian Congress passed in a first vote the budget bill 2018, adjusted at 235.6 trillion Colombian pesos (US$ 80.8 billion).

The most significant change that occurred in the committee was a 5.5 trillion Colombian pesos increase in the amount originally requested by the government for investment.

Colombia's Minister of Finance, Mauricio Cárdenas, stressed that, as a result, the reduction in investment would decrease to 2.6%, from 16%, when compared with the current budget.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the highest growth requested by the government is in the Education sector, which adds 2 trillion pesos, for a total budget of 37.4 trillion. In Mines and Energy, the increase was 1.9 trillion pesos, for a total in the sector of $ 4.3 trillion.

Cárdenas also explained that in the Social Inclusion sector, a $ 1.5 billion modification was proposed, which will improve the living conditions of the country's most vulnerable households. For Science and Technology the new budgetary bill proposes a 120 billion pesos addition, increasing it to $ 339 billion.
