BRAZIL: DI Rates Open Almost Stable Amid Thinner Volume Due To World Cup

07/02/2018 - 16:21:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The one-day interbank deposit futures rates (DI rates) in Brazil opened almost stable Monday, with narrow swings and no definite trend, amid the thin trading volume expected until early afternoon due to the Brazilian national team's match in the World Cup.

For a fixed-income trader at a national brokerage firm, the session should be weak due to the quarter-final match between Brazil and Mexico in Russia.

"The yield curve may be more volatile, with lower liquidity causing distortions, but the news is also weaker, which inhibits movements," he noted.

In the economic agenda of the day, the highlight is the Focus weekly report by the Brazilian Central Bank in a new format. Still, the worsening trend in inflation and exchange rate forecasts in 2018 remained, while the estimate for economic growth (GDP) this year remained stable after consecutive falls.

Near the middle of the session, the January 2019 DI contract rate was at 6.82%, from 6.83% in the previous settlement, while the January 2020 DI rate was stable at 8.32%. The January 2021 DI contract rate was at 9.28%, from 9.31%.
