BRAZIL: DI Rates Open Lower On Wednesday

07/25/2018 - 13:31:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The one-day interbank deposit futures rates (DI rates) in Brazil opened lower while investors await news on the scheduled meeting between the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, to discuss trade. Europeans want to prevent Americans from imposing import tariffs on cars exported by the bloc.

"While the macroeconomic implications of trade frictions are likely to be limited in the long run, we think events and the flow of news should be a key determinant of prices and confidence in the short term," Scotiabank said in a report.

In the domestic market, investors monitor Geraldo Alckmin' pick as the vice in his presidential bid. After PR's Josue Gomes apparently has dismissed that possibility, "an official decision is expected for tomorrow when the 'center' should officialize support for the PSDB in the presidential race," said Ignacio Crespo, the economist at Guide Investimentos.

Near the middle of the session, the January 2019 DI contract rate was at 6.655%, from 6.69% in the previous settlement, while the January 2020 DI rate was at 7.99%, from 8.05%. The January 2021 DI contract rate was at 8.99%, from 9.05%.
