Belgium Consumer Confidence Highest Since Mid-2001

10/19/2017 - 09:33:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Belgium's consumer confidence rose for a second straight month to its highest level since the middle of 2001, driven by the improved outlook for the economy and the unemployment situation, survey data from the National Bank of Belgium showed Thursday.

The consumer confidence index climbed to 4 from 3 in September. A level this high was last seen back in July 2001, the bank said.

The economic expectations measure rose sharply to 9 from 6, suggesting that households expect a more positive situation over the next twelve months.

The measure reflecting unemployment expectations fell to -4 from -2, indicating that consumers expect joblessness to ease over the coming months.

Households were slightly more optimistic regarding their personal financial situation for the next 12 months and the index edged up to 1 from 0. Their saving intentions were unchanged as the measure held steady at 3.
