Australia Q1 Producer Prices Add 0.5% On Quarter

04/27/2017 - 22:16:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - Final demand producer prices in Australia picked up 0.5 percent on quarter in the first three months of 2017, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday - unchanged from the previous quarter.

On a yearly basis, prices gained 1.3 percent after rising 0.7 percent in Q4.

The increases were mainly due to rises in the prices received for electricity supply, gas supply; and water supply, sewerage and drainage services (+2.9 percent), building construction (+0.5 percent) and petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+6.8 percent).

They were partly offset by falls in the prices received for specialized machinery and equipment manufacturing (-2.6 percent), motor vehicle and motor vehicle part manufacturing (-0.8 percent) and commercial fishing (-17.6 percent).

Intermediate demand prices added 0.8 percent on quarter and 2.2 percent on year.

The gains were mainly due to rises in the prices received for electricity supply, gas supply; and water supply, sewerage and drainage services (+5.5 percent), petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (+8.2 percent) and oil and gas extraction (+9.0 percent).

They were partly offset by falls in the prices received for employment services (-2.8 percent), printing and printing support services (-6.9 percent) and rental and hiring services (excluding real estate) (-1.8 percent).

Preliminary demand prices gained 0.9 percent on quarter and 2.1 percent on year.

The gains were mainly due to rises in the prices received for electricity, gas and water supply (+5.6 percent), petroleum refining (+8.9 percent) and oil and gas extraction (+9.0 percent).

They were partly offset by falls in the prices received for employment services (-2.8 percent), rental and hiring services (excluding real estate) (-2.4 percent) and coal mining (-8.7 percent).

Also on Friday, the Reserve Bank of Australia said that private sector credit in Australia was up 0.3 percent on month in March.

That was unchanged from the previous month, although it missed expectations for a gain of 0.5 percent.

On a yearly basis, credit gained 5.0 percent - again unchanged but missing forecasts for 5.1 percent.

Housing credit was up 0.5 percent on month and 6.5 percent on year, while personal credit shed 0.3 percent on month and 1.5 percent on year and business credit was flat on month and added 3.4 percent on year.
