Australia Q2 Private Capex Gains 0.8%

(RTTNews) - Private capital expenditure in Australia expanded a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent on quarter in the second three months of 2017, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday - standing at A$28.275 billion.

That exceeded expectations for an increase of 0.2 percent following the 0.3 percent gain in the three months prior.

On a yearly basis, capex was down 3.0 percent.

Individually, capex for buildings and structures fell 0.6 percent on quarter and 5.1 percent on year to A$15.786 billion.

Capex for equipment, plants and machinery advanced 2.7 percent on quarter and fell 0.1 percent on year to A$12.489 billion.

Also on Thursday, the Reserve Bank of Australia said that private sector credit in Australia was up 0.5 percent on month in July. That was in line with expectations and down from 0.6 percent in June.

On a yearly basis, credit expanded 5.3 percent - shy of forecasts for 5.4 percent, which would have been unchanged.

Housing credit was up 0.5 percent on month and 6.6 percent on year, while personal credit sank 0.1 percent on month and 1.4 percent on year and business credit gained 0.5 percent on month and 4.2 percent on year.

Broad money was down 0.1 percent on month and up 6.7 percent on year.
