ARGENTINA: Electoral Campaign Begins For Primary Legislative Elections

(RTTNews) - Argentina officially launched the campaign for primary elections on August 13. The votes will define the candidates that will compete in the national legislative elections in October.

The former president Cristina Fern?ndez de Kirchner, who leads the Unidad Ciudadana's list to the Senate, will perform her launching ceremony in Mar del Plata.

Florencio Randazzo, a former Minister of Transport under Kirchner, will also lead an act of his own, while and Sergio Massa and Margarita Stolbizer, leaders of the Renovating Front and the Progressive Front, respectively, will launch the coalition 1Pa?s.

For his part, President Mauricio Macri will travel through the Buenos Aires area. Tomorrow, officials and pre-candidates of the ruling party Cambiemos are expected to perform their traditional days of doorbells throughout the country, visiting different cities and neighborhoods house by house.

Meanwhile, the Argentinean ministers of Education and Defense - Esteban Bullrich and Julio Mart?nez, respectively - and the head of the Plan Belgrano Unit, Jos? Cano, will be leaving their posts in the government to become candidates.

The final legislative elections will be held on October 22 to elect representatives and senators. In this election, Argentineans will renew a third of the Senate for the period 2017-2023 and almost half of the House of Representatives for the period 2017-2021.
