ARGENTINA: Economist Expect 20.3% Annual Inflation By Year End - Survey

10/04/2017 - 16:25:00 (RTTNews)

(RTTNews) - The monthly inflation projection in Argentina remains at 1.3% for October, in line with what was forecast in the previous survey. However, annual core inflation for the end of 2017 rose by 0.2 percentage point (pp), to 20.3%, according to a monthly survey conducted by the Argentinean central bank.

Recently, the Argentinean monetary authority gave up of its inflation target for 2017, between 12 and 17%, focusing on the target for the end of 2018, between 8% and 12%. The survey conducted by the central bank in September signalizes that inflation is gradually converging to its target. The forecast for year-on-year variation in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the next 12 months fell to 15.0%, from 15.1% in the previous survey.

Meanwhile, the forecast for the benchmark interest rate in October rose by 25 basis points, from 26% to its current level of 26.25% per year. However, the economists consulted by the Argentinean central bank expect a gradual decrease in interest rate starting November 17 until reach 25.50% by year-end.

Finally, the respondents projected that the Argentinean Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth would reach 2.8% in 2017, 3.0% in 2018, and 3.2% in 2019, as in the previous survey.
